Development Project
St Peter’s Development Project
St Peter’s Church in Wolvercote is BUILDING FOR THE COMMUNITY.
St Peter’s Church is seeking to serve the parish of Wolvercote better by extending and altering our buildings for the benefit of local community groups.
THE NEED
Our Church Hall (called the “Church Room”) is well-used by community groups, especially the pre-school groups. It is ideally situated for them directly opposite the school, but it is small and outdated. The pre-school groups need facilities which meet modern-day standards; and they need more space – already there are waiting lists which will only increase if and when more houses are built in Wolvercote.
OUR AIM is to…
- alter and improve the existing Church Room and toilets and install a new toilet for people with disabilities.
- build a new room and kitchen onto the Church Room and connect both to the back of the Church with a glass link.
- remove the pews from the north aisle in the Church to create a flexible space for midweek use for community meetings, groups, exhibitions, coffee café. The main aisle will remain traditional, retaining the existing pews.
- create an attractive cloister courtyard between the Church and the Church Room.
OUR VISION is to create…
- buildings in regular use by both church and community groups.
- purpose-built facilities for the pre-school groups; and more space so that two groups can meet at once.
- buildings which are far more environmentally friendly than at present.
- a church open and in use much more of the time.
We want to see a thriving, humming set of buildings in regular use by our community.
A more comprehensive outline of our aspirations and progress to date is available, and further details of the project, its costs, and the funding we need to realise it may be found on other pages.
