Shaping our vision

In collaboration with Wolvercote Baptist Church, we are taking forward an initiative to deepen our response to God’s call –  ‘Shaping our Vision’. A January 2015 away day of clergy, the PCC and other members of the congregation started planning our response to the results of community research aiming to identify our direction for the future and ways of implementing it.

Focussing on our relationship with God and with each other, we agreed two high-level vision statements:

  • Becoming closer to God and celebrating his loving purposes
  • Reaching out unconditionally showing God’s love for all creation.

For the first year, seven goals were set for our responses to these statements and groups formed to develop proposed actions. Reflecting on the successes and progress of our first year, in 2016 we decided to focus in the following areas:

  • Spiritual exploration (Leader: Viv Bridges)
  • Social justice, environmental issues & Learning (Leader: Diana Clews)
  • Pastoral care in the community
  • Worship for all ages: hearing the Gospel in different ways (Leaders: Beth & Richard Knowles)

Last Autumn we considered how St Luke’s writings help us as we seek to further Shape our Vision, focusing on social justice, pastoral care in the community, spirituality and hearing the gospel.
