St Peter’s Net

St Peter’s Net is our church’s pastoral care support group. Members of the Net visit those who are housebound or in hospital. Some members will take communion to people in their home if they’re unable to come to Church.

Net members  visit newcomers to St Peter’s who have filled in a blue card, found in the church pews. Periodically, newcomers to the congregation are able to meet some regular churchgoers over lunch in St Peter’s Room.

Contact the parish office for further information.

FairPlay Oxford

Fairplay Oxford, a network in Cutteslowe, Summertown, Waterways and Wolvercote acting through the Summertown-Wolvercote Church Partnership, aims to bring together voluntary organisations and groups, including local churches, who are tackling issues of social justice.

The network aims to keep groups in touch with one another and exchange information, encouraging and supporting our separate activities. We also facilitate sharing of  resources, arrange joint events and act together e.g. campaigning if appropriate.

Open to anyone interested in the network or in membership with one of its groups, Open Meetings are held at least twice a year to share news and ideas, discuss current issues, and plan ahead. A coordinating group is nominated by network’s members and ratified at an annual Open Meeting. Current members are Diana Clews, Vivien Edwards, Caroline Harding, John Harding, Beryl Knotts and Susanna Snyder. Chair: Michael Taylor, Secretary: Helen Dodd. Contact fairplayoxford@gmail.com to receive a list of member organisations and sign up for a quarterly e-newsletter.

Fairtrade

St Peter’s is a Fairtrade Church. We are committed to:

  • using Fairtrade products in church;

  • promoting fair trade throughout the year including our a regular opportunity to buy fairtrade goods in church, articles in the regular newsletters and Flying Goose, and promoting Fairtrade fortnight in March.

On the third Sunday of the month, a Fairtrade stall is open in St Peter’s Parish Room after the 10:00am service. Volunteers are always welcomed. Contact Lorna Logan at lornlogan@hotmail.com.

The five Summertown-Wolvercote Church Partnership churches also have a Make Poverty History Group, which works actively to promote Fairtrade in the shops in Summertown and Wolvercote. More details about this group are on the Church Partnership pages, under Shared Activities.
